Success on a Plate
Jack is recognized as Britain’s number one at Europe’s biggest motor racing show.
Jack enjoyed a stellar 2011, winning a slew of races on the way to claiming the prestigious national Super One title, plus the Kartmasters Rotax Cup crowns. Consequently, he is much in demand. Not least at the recent Autosport International show, Europe’s annual and biggest celebration of motor sport in all its different forms, held annually at the NEC in Birmingham.
He enjoyed a packed programme of appearances over three days (12/13/14 January) – helping a squad of top karters finish 2nd overall in a charity kart race against some of motor racing’s biggest names (Thursday), represented British motor racing’s governing body - the Motor Sports Association - on their stand (Friday) and then gave a polished interview performance in front of a large crowd on Saturday. He topped off his weekend by collecting his award for winning last year’s Super One Junior Rotax Championship.
As he stood on top of the podium, clutching his enormous trophy and number plate emblazoned with a large white ‘1’ on it, Jack acknowledged the contribution of the people and companies that contributed to his success: “It’s a great feeling to be here and I’m glad to have been able to repay the support of my team, Strawberry Racing, my family and the companies that are helping me with my career; adidas, Superdry, Arai and Roller Signs.”
With the Junior title now under his belt, Jack is bidding to win the Senior championship this season before graduating to single-seater racing cars in 2013. Mindful that, despite the commitments required to become a professional racing driver, he needs to maintain his education, the teenager has enrolled on the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence at Loughborough College.
“It’s the perfect course and place for me,” he said with genuine enthusiasm. “The AASE scheme allows me to study subjects and develop skills that are relevant to my racing and needed to succeed at the highest level. Loughborough has a great record for developing world-class athletes and it is great to be in and among other young people, not just from motor racing, who want to achieve their ultimate goals. It’s very inspiring.”
He added: “I’ve already been assigned my own nutritionist and they’ve given me some areas I need to work on prior to and during race weekends. Ironically for a racing driver, I need to eat more. The days are long but really beneficial and I’ve already made some good friends. Because it’s so far from home, I have to go back and forth on trains and stay in a hotel but I’m enjoying the sense of freedom this gives me. It is good preparation for achieving my goal of becoming a professional racing driver.”
